Well this is a bit intimidating…
The first post of The Meal Quest! The first post of a food blog from a guy who, as of recently, was never one to photograph his food or even give it the appreciation it deserved beyond the simple act of feeding a hungry stomach.
What is The Meal Quest you ask? It will be a culinary journey of the foods that I prepare at home, that I discover while dining out in my hometown of Adelaide, or while travelling abroad.
My passion for food and its preparation became apparent while travelling to Singapore with my family in September 2018. It was my first overseas trip, and one that truly broadened my world-view about the impact food has on a people’s culture and how tasting food was a gateway to experiencing that culture. It makes sense why the food left me feeling this way. The dishes were a delectable confluence of cuisines with origins across China, Malaysia, India and Europe.
Of course, Australia, my home country, also has a diverse mix of people who have introduced incredible foods and cooking practices over time, but it wasn’t until I walked through Singapore’s famous districts of Kampong Glam, Little India and its bustling Chinatown that I began to respect the role food has on our lives. It brought friends and families together in the hawker centres, satisfied customers patiently waiting at their local street food haunt and it provided me with a wealth of amazing flavours upon each bite.
It’s those feelings of appreciation and respect for food that I hope to deliver to you through this blog. I hope it will become a journey that you will follow with me on. Stay tuned!
